Hira Hafeez Ur Rehman

What actions are you taking to promote and protect the health and rights of women and young people worldwide?

I have been in the development field for over three years working voluntarily for young children, girls and women. I am working at UNDP Pakistan where I primarily work for Gender projects spread over different provinces in Pakistan. The project basically provide skills training to young women & address women’s rights issues at all levels.
I have been working for Young people for several years and i voluntarily advocate for young people’s rights through different youth platforms, the current one being UNFPA. I along with a group of 3 young girls have been working under our group called the “Youth Dividend”. Youth Dividend group has diverse experiences in the field of Media, Gender, Youth, Advocacy, teamwork, public speaking, organizing meetings and forums with youth and stakeholders, and immense experience at grass root level in different areas of Pakistan, and experience of working with vulnerable, marginalized communities, and key populations, so this project would cater large number of girls and other communities of Pakistan.

What is your vision of lasting change for yourself and for the world's young people?

My vision is to see the young people in Pakistan progress in every field of work. I wish to use my the skills ive learnt so far to empower young people by providing them basic knowledge, resources and tools to address the youth issues that needs urgent attention. I think that young people all over the world are agents of change and all are equally good at what they do so i see these young people are leaders of tomorrow.

If you could tell world leaders one thing, what would it be?

To give a platform to youth to make their own decisions, dont assume that they’re young and dont know anything. I would urge the leaders to stop making policies for Youth without their formal consultation.

Hira your project is a step in the right direction .However, I find that we as a nation need to focus on 'Youth' for building their skills and hence need a system wide interventins for that.

Cograts on a job well-done ! keep it up.
