What actions are you taking to promote and protect the health and rights of women and young people worldwide?
Yo trabajo en una organización de jóvenes (Coordinadora Juvenil por la Equidad de Género), aquí tenemos espacios de capacitacion sobre los derechos de las mujeres jovenes y sobre sexualidad, además tenemos una linea telefónica, que brinda información sobre cómo hacer un aborto seguro a las mujeres de nuestro país. El año pasado impulsamos un proceso con mujeres jóvenes graffiteras que dibujamos en las paredes de la ciudad de Quito gráficos por nuestros derechos. Además terminamos de lanzar una publicación de historias de mujeres que han decidido abortar en nuestro país.
En los próximos 5 meses estaré trabajando en UNFPA HQ, en un proyecto con jóvenes.
I work with Coordinadora Juvenil por la Equidad de Género where we host trainings about the rights and sexuality of women and young people. We also have a phone line that provides information for women in our country about accessing safe abortion services. Last year, we drove a process with young female graffiti artists who drew graphics about women’s rights on the walls of Quito. We are also finishing the launch of a publication about the histories of women who have decided to have an abortion in Ecuador.
In the next five months, I will be working at UNFPA HQ in a project with young people.
What is your vision of lasting change for yourself and for the world's young people?
Creo que transformar nuestras relaciones afectivas personales son parte fundamental para transformar la realidad de las mujeres, esto lo podemos hacer siempre que podamos tener información eficas y eficiente en nuestra vida para poder tomar las mejores decisiones. Por otra parte considero que esta tranformación desde lo personal hace que la gente que vive a nuestro al rededor vaya viendo nuevas formas de relaciones, equitativas, distintas a las que nos han enseñado y justas, y así también se planteen tranformarlas. Por otra parte creo que es importante que participemos de manera organizada en nuestras comunidades porque solamente así podremos hacer realidad las demandas que tenemos.
I believe that to transform our personal relations it is fundamental to transform the reality of the women, which we can do when we have complete and useful information to be able to make the best decisions. On the other hand, I think that this transformation from a personal point of view makes people around us see new relationships that are just and equal, that are different from what we’ve been taught, and can ultimately change people’s ways of thinking. It is important to take part in an organized manner in our communities because only then will we make the demands we have a reality.
If you could tell world leaders one thing, what would it be?
Que miren abajo a las organizaciones sociales que estamos trabajando por construir un mundo justo y equitativo, que no tomen decisiones que nos afectan a todos y todas sin consultarnos. Que valoren el trabajo de las personas que estamos contruyendo un mundo distinto.
That they consider the organizations that are working to construct a just and equal world and don’t make decisions that affect us without consulting us, and that they value the work of those who are working to build a different world.
