Description of the Contest

The Contest is designed to reward the entrant who submits the best story (“Story”) according to the judging criteria set forth in rule 4. Contest finalists (“Finalists”) will be selected by a panel of judges and voters. The judges will determine the grand prize winner, who will receive a $1000 grant to be applied to the project they detail in response to the question “What would you do with a $1000 grant to help realize your vision for young people?”. The Contest is sponsored by the International Women’s Health Coalition (“Sponsor”).

Eligibility

The Contest is open to persons who have reached the age of eighteen but are no older than thirty years of age (inclusive of the age thirty). Staff and board members of the International Women’s Health Coalition and members of their immediate families, regardless of whether they reside in the same household, are not eligible to enter. Grand prize winner must satisfy U.S. entry requirements and possess all necessary travel documents.

How to Enter

Entrants must be self-nominated and must answer all required questions on the enrty form. To enter a nomination, visit Young Visionaries and follow the online nomination instructions. Nominations must be submitted between 5:00PM (ET) USA January 21, 2010 and 5:00PM (ET) USA March 25, 2010. The Story must be original and not violate the intellectual property right of any third party. Sponsor reserves the right to reject any Story that contains offensive material or impugns any ethnic, religious or social groups or person.

Judging

Judging will be conducted in two phases. Phase one: (January 21-March 25). All Stories deemed suitable by Sponsor, in its sole discretion, will be posted at http://blog.iwhc.org/young-visionaries. All Stories will be reviewed by Sponsor for content, space, legal and privacy issues prior to posting. During this time, nominees’ profiles will be voted on online by the general public. Finalists will be chosen by IWHC communications staff, based on popular vote by visitors to the website, and submitted to the judges for final judging. (March 31-April 5). The panel of 5 expert judges will select the grand prize winner, who will be announced on April 6. Visitors to Young Visionaries can vote on the nominees of their choice by clicking on the individual’s profile and clicking the “vote” button next to the nominee’s photo. Voters can vote for as many different people as they wish, but can only vote for each nominee once. The IWHC communications staff will identify 5 finalists by the number of votes they receive on the site between Janury 21 and March 25, and 5 finalists using the below criteria. Five judges, as selected by IWHC Communications staff, will then select the Grand Prize Winner. Judges will apply the following judging criteria: (1) demonstrated commitment to IWHC’s mission, vision and theory of change; (2) strength of vision and proposed project; and (3) nominee demonstrates capacity for leadership. Sponsor urges online voters to apply the same criteria. Sponsor reserves the right to disqualify any votes that it believes, in its sole discretion, were fraudulently cast, were cast in violation of these, or were cast to gain an unfair advantage. 

The judges will apply the above judging criteria and select the Grand Prize winner from among the Finalists will be announced on March 26, 2010 and the Grand Prize winner will be announced on or about April 6, 2010. Winner will be notified by phone, email or mail, at Sponsor’s discretion. Winner must respond within 7 days of first notification or the prize may be forfeited.

Grand Prize

Grand Prize winner will receive a $1000 grant to support the project the Finalist outlines in response to the question, “What would you do with a $1000 grant to help realize your vision for young people?” Monies are payable either to the individual or their affiliated organization, and the Finalist is required to submit a written report about how the money was used.

Acceptance Official Rules

As a condition of entry, you fully and unconditionally agree to these Official Rules and to Sponsor’s decisions, which are final and binding in all respects. You further agree that Sponsor may post your Story at its website for voting and publicity purposes. All Stories become property of Sponsor.

Entry Errors

Sponsor is not responsible for lost, late, incomplete, damaged, stolen, invalid, unintelligible or misdirected entries. Sponsor is not responsible for (1) human, technical, mechanical or electric errors, (2) any incorrect or inaccurate capture of entry information or the failure to capture any such information, or (3) printing or typographical errors in the printing of any Contest materials. If for any reason, the Contest cannot be conducted in a manner contemplated by these Official Rules, Sponsor may modify or terminate the Contest and award prizes to those who entered prior to the time of termination. Sponsor reserves the right to discontinue the Contest at any time without prior notice.

Substitution; Taxes

No assignment or transfer of prizes will be permitted, except at Sponsor’s sole discretion. Sponsor reserves the right to substitute a prize with one of comparable or greater value if the advertised prize is unavailable. Winners are solely responsible for all federal, state or country taxes associated with the receipt and use of the prize.

Governing Laws

All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of participant and Sponsor in connection with the Promotion, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with the laws of the State of New York, USA, without giving effect to any choice of law or conflict of law rules or provisions, that would cause the application of the laws of any jurisdiction other than the State of New York.

Documents

Entrants hereby release and to indemnify and hold harmless the Sponsor and each of its officers, directors, employees and agents from any liability, injury, death, loss or damages to entrant or any person or entity, including without limitation, damage to personal or real property, caused in whole or in part, directly or indirectly, by participation in this Contest (or related activities) or the acceptance, possession or use/misuse of a prize. Grand Prize winner will be required to complete an affidavit or declaration of eligibility/liability, a publicity release and such other documents as may be required by Sponsor. Required documents must be signed and received by Sponsor within 10 days of the date printed on the prize notification. Failure to execute or timely return the prize notification documentation may result in forfeiture of prize.

By accepting the Grand Prize winner grants permission (and agrees to confirm that grant in writing if so requested) to Sponsor and those acting under its authority the right to the use of her name, photo, likeness, voice, biographical information and statements, at any time or times, for advertising, trade publicity, promotional and commercial purposes without additional compensation, in connection with this Contest.

Winners List

The name of 10 finalists and the Grand Prize winner will be posted on the IWHC blog Akimbo.

Privacy

Personally identifiable information that is submitted by entrants as part of this Contest will be used to administer the Contest, select the prize winner and fulfill the prize, and will be treated in accordance with Sponsor’s privacy policy, available here.
